VC Sajjanar, the Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and a senior IPS officer, has raised alarm over the growing trend of social media influencers promoting online betting apps. In a recent tweet, Sajjanar expressed concern over the dangerous influence of such promotions, particularly among young followers.
Sajjanar shared a video where an Instagram content creator, boasting a large following, demonstrated how users could place bets at a shop and use the profits to purchase desired items immediately. The influencer’s message implied that betting could be an easy and profitable way to buy products, a concept Sajjanar described as "perverse."
"While online betting is ruining lives, social media influencers are using it as a tool for personal gain, masking its dangers under the guise of innocent promotions," Sajjanar wrote in his tweet. He further cautioned his followers against falling for such deceptive tactics, urging them to be aware of the risks involved in online betting.
The senior officer's tweet has sparked a wave of reactions on Twitter, with many users agreeing that stricter laws are needed to curb the promotion of betting apps. Several users highlighted the potential dangers of these apps, with one user stating, "These betting apps are more dangerous than drugs."
